Spectrophotometric determination of cimetidine in tablets with alkaline sodium pentacyanonitrosyliron(III)

Abstract

Cimetidine reacts quantitatively with alkaline sodium pentacyanonitrosyliron(III) giving a red species on acidification. The intensity of the colour was determined spectrophotometrically at 433 nm. All reagents used affected the system and were optimised to give a simple, precise and accurate method for the determination of cimetidine in tablets.
