Fluorimetric determination of trace amounts of gallium in biological tissues

Abstract

An analytical method has been developed for the fluorimetric determination of microgram amounts of gallium in solution, based on the reaction of gallium with 1,5-bis(salicylmethyleneamino)guanidine at pH 3.4–3.7 in an aqueous ethanol medium. The influence of reaction variables has been investigated. The detection limit is 1 ng ml–1 and the range of application is 1–250 ng ml–1 of gallium. The error of the method is ±2.9%. The effect of interferences has been studied and the method applied to the determination of gallium in biological tissues after destruction of the organic matter with HNO3-H2O2.
