Determination of acrolein and crotonaldehyde in automobile exhaust gas by gas chromatography with electron-capture detection
Abstract
A method for the determination of acrolein and crotonaldehyde in air samples based on bromination of their O-benzyloxime derivatives followed by gas chromatography with electron-capture detection was established. This method was preferable to the bromination of O-methyloxime derivatives for the simultaneous determination of these compounds because the reaction efficiency was higher. The technique was applied to the determination of acrolein and crotonaldehyde in automobile exhaust gas, and was found to be satisfactory for the selective and sensitive determination of these compounds.
