Least-squares fitting of tabular data to rational functions in BASIC

Abstract

A theoretical explanation of the discontinuous kinetic behaviour of polymeric enzymes during inhibition of their reactivity was presented previously. Such a discontinuity was observed for the LDH-H4 isoenzyme when its reactivity was inhibited by oxalic and formic acids (conversion of pyruvate to lactate). A simple BASIC program was used to fit the experimental kinetic data of these reactions with an approximating function by the method of least squares. The program is suitable for the routine simulation of experimental data with theoretical functions.
