Properties of the liquid crystals formed by certain 4-alkoxy-N-(2-phenanthrylmethylene)anilines

Abstract

The liquid crystal transition temperatures of twelve 4-alkoxy-N-(2-phenanthrylmethylene)anilines are reported and compared with those of corresponding members of similar homologous series of azomethines. Differences in liquid crystal thermal stability between comparable azomethines in which the –CH[double bond, length as m-dash]N– linkage is reversed are discussed.
