Selective cleavage of ditertiary glycols under mild conditions, with bisacetylacetonato-oxovanadium

Abstract

Bisacetylacetonato-oxovanadium [VO(acac)2] is a selective reagent for the quantitative cleavage of ditertiary glycols, under mild conditions. The reaction takes place also with catalytic amounts of the reagent in the presence of t-butyl hydroperoxide or m-chloroperbenzoic acid.
