Matrix interactions with organic triplet states

Abstract

Phosphorescence kinetics of ketones in ambient temperature polymer solid solutions are reviewed. The aromatic ketones benzophenone, anthraquinone, phenanthraquinone and benzil, under flashed laser excitation, demonstrate non-exponential kinetics. For these compounds, fractal kinetics are found to fit some of the systems examined. In contrast, the aliphatic diketones diacetyl and camphorquinone demonstrate exponential kinetics. Such kinetics, when perturbed in the presence of oxygen as a quencher, have been the subject of preliminary study.
