Temperature dependence of the rate constant for the H-atom abstraction from pyridine by CF3 radicals

Abstract

The gas-phase reaction of CF3 radicals with pyridine has been studied in the temperature range 295–673 K using the photolysis and thermal decomposition of CF3I as the radical source. Hydrogen abstraction was found at temperatures above 548 K and the temperature dependence of the rate constant relative to the CF3 radical recombination was found to follow the expression log (kH/kc½c)=(5.23 ± 0.19)–(41.7 ± 2.4)/θ, where θ= 2.303 RT/kJ mol–1 and kH/k½c is in units of cm3/2 mol–1/2 s–1/2.
