The spectroscopy, photophysics and photochemistry of clusters of s-tetrazine
Abstract
The structural and dynamical properties of three related types of clusters have been studied by laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy in a supersonic free jet. The clusters studied were tetrazine–rare gas clusters, tetrazine dimers and dimethyl tetrazine dimers. The tetrazine–rare gas clusters had the rare gas atoms bound only to out-of-plane sites. The tetrazine dimer was determined to have two geometric isomers, a planar isomer and a [graphic omitted]-shaped isomer. In the dimethyl tetrazine dimer the two rings were stacked and planar, but slipped with respect to one another. Three dynamical processes were observed in the various clusters: resonance fluorescence, intramolecular relaxation and photodissociation. The relative rates of these three processes were measured and found to be very different in the three different clusters.
