Coordination structure of zinc(II) ions in a mixed-solvent system of formamide and ammonium formate. An EXAFS and RDF investigation

Abstract

The coordination structure of ZnII ions in HCONH2–HCOONH4–ZnO solution, where the molar ratio of HCOONH4 and ZnO is ca. 2.0, has been investigated using EXAFS (extended X-ray absorption fine structure) and RDF (radial distribution function) methods. From both results we found that ZnII ions from mononuclear Zn(HCOO)2(HCONH2)2 tetrahedra with a Zn—O bond length of 1.99 Å in HCONH2–HCOONH4 solution.
