Short-range order in amorphous poly(methyl methacrylate)

Abstract

The coherent neutron scattering from the syndiotactic and isotactic stereo-isomers of poly(methyl methacrylate) has been observed in the Q range 0.2–2.5 Å–1 using a technique involving neutron spin-polarisation analysis. In addition, a powder neutron scattering pattern has been measured in the Q range 0.2–7.4 Å–1. Measurements have been carried out over a wide temperature range below 300 K. A difference between the two scattering patterns at Q values below 1.5 Å–1 has been found and attributed to the different molecular packing of two stereoisomers.
