Solvent effects in OH overtone spectra of methanol

Abstract

The solvent shifts of the OH and OD stretching overtone frequencies have been measured in CCl4, CH2Cl2, CHCl3, C5H12, CS2 and C6H6. It is found that the anharmonicity constants are almost identical, but the mechanical frequencies change as a function of the solvent used. The results are interpreted by a theory for non-specific interactions for very weakly interacting solvents.
