γ-radiolysis of polycrystalline magnesium oxide

Abstract

The influence of γ-radiation on the structure of the MgO surface has been investigated. γ-Radiation generates various different oxygen species (mainly O2), and the greater part of the energy absorbed by the whole crystal migrates from the bulk to the surface where it is consumed in the radiolysis of polycrystalline MgO.
