Rheo-optics of suspensions of anisometric particles. Part 2.—Polydisperse, brownian ellipsoidal particles
Abstract
Rheo-optical properties of an ensemble of Brownian ellipsoids with polydispersity in size, calculated using a dynamic simulation method, indicate the damping of both the initial transient oscillations and oscillations occurring at longer times. These results are compared with experiments carried out on a model suspension containing anisometric latex particles. Agreement between the theory and experiments points to the possibility of using rheo-optical measurements to obtain information on size and shape of anisometric colloids with significant polydispersity in their particle size.
