Halogeno-oxydiantimon(III)ates

Abstract

Compounds in the halogeno-oxydiantimonate series, [Hpy]2[Sb2OBrnCl6–n][n= 0–6, Hpy = pyridinium(1+)], have been synthesised by partial hydrolysis from related [Hpy]3[Sb2BrnCl9 –n] species and characterised by vibrational spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. The hexachloride [Hpy]2[Sb2OCl6] also results from the action of adventitious water on solutions of antimony(III) chloride and pyridine.
