Synthesis of heterotrimetallic complexes containing M–Hg–Pt (M = Pt, Fe, Mn, or Co) arrays

Abstract

Heterotrimetallic complexes [Hg{PtR(PPh3)2}2](R = 2,3,4-C6H2Cl3, 2,4,6-C6H2Cl3, 2,3,5,6-C6HCl4, or C6Cl5) have been prepared by reaction of [Pt(CH2[double bond, length half m-dash]CH2)(PPh3)2] with [RHg–PtR(PPh3)2]. From the reactions of [Hg{Pt(C6Cl5)(PPh3)2}2] with [Hg{Fe(CO)25-C5H5)}2], [Hg{Mn(CO)5}2], and [Hg{Co(CO)4}2], the complexes [(η5-C5H5)(CO)2Fe–Hg–Pt(C6Cl5)(PPh3)2], [(CO)5Mn–Hg–Pt(C6Cl5)(PPh3)2], and [(CO)4Co–Hg–Pt(C6Cl5)(PPh3)2] were isolated. The scope of these reactions is discussed. All the compounds were characterized by i.r. and 31P n.m.r. spectroscopy.
