Condensation of o-phenylenediamine and phthalaldehyde using molybdenum(0) as template. Isolation and crystal and molecular structure of an intermediate molybdenum complex with an η2-bonded aldehydic group

Abstract

Reaction of [Mo(CO)3(C6H5Me)] with o-phenylenediamine and phthalaldehyde carried out in methanol at room temperature gives [Mo(CO)3L]{L = 2-[(2′-aminophenyl)iminomethyl]benzaldehydea. The molecular structure determination of [Mo(CO)3L] shows the open-chain nature of L together with the η2-co-ordination of the aldehydic group to the metal. The compound is an openchain intermediate for a N4 macrocyclic complex.
