Models for the reaction of hydrogen sulphide with a platinum(111) surface: the structure of the cluster cation [Pt3H(µ3-S)(µ-Ph2PCH2PPh2)3]+

Abstract

The reactions of MeSH, PhSH, and H2S with the co-ordinatively unsaturated cluster [Pt33-CO)(µ-dppm)3]2+, dppm = Ph2PCH2PPh2, model important features of the poisoning of a Pt(111) surface by these reagents in giving the novel products [Pt3H(µ3-SMe)(µ-dppm)3]2+, [Pt3(SPh)(µ3-SPh)(µ-dppm)3]2+, and [Pt3H(µ3-S)(µ-dppm)3]+, which has been characterised by a single crystal X-ray determination.
