Synthesis and X-ray analysis of the first example of a phosphonium ylide complex of dioxomolybdenum(VI)

Abstract

Addition of an equimolecular amount of Bu3P[double bond, length as m-dash]CH2 to Mo(O)2(mesityl)2 in tetrahydrofuran yields the air-stable (mesityl)2Mo(O)2CH2P+Bu3, the first example of a phosphonium dioxomolybdenum(VI) ylide complex; its structure has been determined by X-ray analysis.
