CH3·vs.CF3· : relative rates of formation from β-scission

Abstract

The relative rates of formation of CH3· and CF3· from β-scission reactions of trifluoro-t-butoxy radical (1) have been measured to be about 10 : 1 by thermolysing both trifluoro-t-butyl hypochlorite (4) and bis(trifluoro-t-butyl) peroxydicarbonate (14) in CCl4 at 160 and 140 °C.
