Inversion of tertiary nitrogen in the nickel(II) complex of a tetradentate macrocyclic ligand containing three tertiary amine donors: X-ray structures of {Ni[3,7,11-trimethyl-3,7,11,17-tetra-azabicyclo[11.3.1]heptadeca-1(17),13,15-triene]} perchlorate monohydrate and its mono aqua complex

Abstract

All three possible diastereoisomers of the title complex have been isolated although one of these apparently occurs only in a folded form with a fifth ligand occupying the basal position of the square pyramid; conversion between diastereoisomers requires additional ligands with the relative stabilities of the diastereoisomers depending upon the donor strength of the medium and, in water, upon the concentration of NaClO4.
