Synthesis and laser desorption mass spectrometry of linear epoxypolyacenes

Abstract

A series of linear epoxypolyacenes with up to eleven linearly annulated rings have been prepared by repeated Diels–Alder and oxidation reactions; their mass spectra, which are difficult to record by normal techniques because the compounds have low volatility and solubility, have been obtained by laser desorption Fourier transform mass spectrometry.
