Synthetic confirmation of the proposed structure for the C20 tricyclic carboxylic acid isolated from the alberta oil sands

Abstract

The synthesis of the tricyclic carboxylic acid (3), from (±)-methyl isocopalate (4)via the key intermediate (5a), which confirms the proposed structure of (3), is described.
