Synthesis of polymer-encapsulated mono- and bi-nuclear metal isocyanide complexes

Abstract

Matrix-scale metal vapour reactions of Fe and Ni with an isocyano-functionalised polysiloxane (1) afford novel polymer-encapsulated mononuclear metal isocyanide complexes [M(CNR)n; M = Fe, n= 5; M = Ni, n= 4], which in the case of Fe can be photolysed to give the binuclear Fe2(CNR)9 species, while Co vapour yeilds the Co2(CNR)8 species directly; the results of preparative scale reactions with Co and Ni are in good agreement with these studies.
