Photometric determination of tartaric acid in wine by flow injection analysis

Abstract

A photometric method for the determination of tartaric acid based on its reaction with vanadate is described. The method requires no prior separation of the analyte and allows its determination in the range 0.02–0.40 g l–1, with a coefficient of variation of 0.79% and a sampling rate of 50 per hour. A comparison with the standard official method showed the usefulness of the proposed method, which is faster, more sensitive and selective and uses less sample and reagent.
