On the nature of the luminescence centres on MgO surface

Abstract

The effect of the conditions of the oxygen pretreatment and the adsorption of various molecules on the characteristics of the photoluminescence of thermoevacuated powder MgO have been investigated. The data obtained are shown to be in better agreement with the attribution of the liminescence at 415 nm to surface F+s centres and that at 530 nm to surface Fos centres, rather than to the coordinatively unsaturated surface O2– anions.
