Kinetics of reaction between hydroxide ions and iron(II) complexes in two microemulsions. Evidence for microheterogeneity

Abstract

Kinetic data are reported for the reaction in two microemulsions between hydroxide ions and three iron(II) complex ions: Fe(phen)2+3, Fe(4,7-dimethylphen)2+3 and Fe(3,4,7,8–tetramethylphen)2+3. The rates of reaction are considerably faster than in aqueous solutions. For three systems the kinetic data were analysed in terms of two kinetic parameters rather than in terms of a single rate constant. These and related observations point to the interphase as the site of reaction in microheterogeneous systems.
