Electrical properties of the perylene–p-chloranil complex and the effect of o-chloranil as an impurity

Abstract

The conduction and dielectric properties of crystalline and polycrystalline perylene–p-chloranil adducts have been found to be strongly influenced by the presence of o-chloranil as an impurity. The observed effects are considered to be related to o-chloranil possessing a net dipole moment and to its having a larger electron affinity than p-chloranil. The results also give support to theories concerning the relationship expected between the conductivity and dielectric properties of materials in which hopping charge-transport processes occur.
