Effects of solvent on stacking interactions. A spectrophotometric study of thionine dimerization in H2O and D2O

Abstract

Results of a spectrophotometric study at different temperatures of the monomer⇌dimer equilibrium of thionine solutions in H2O and in D2O confirm and extend previous findings, obtained by studying the self-association of Methylene Blue in aqueous solutions, concerning the involvement of solvent rearrangement processes in the stacking of planar dye molecules.
