Reactions between dinuclear metal carbonyl complexes and alkyl halides: formal oxidative addition across a metal–metal single bond

Abstract

Photochemical reactions between [Mn2(CO)8(PR3)]2](R = Et, Bun, OEt) and alkyl halides (R′X) proceed to completion in 2 to 4 h yielding equimolar quantities of [MnR′(CO)4PR3] and [MnX(CO)4PR3], by a route involving reaction of R′X with mononuclear intermediates.
