A stable trinuclear mixed (organic)(organo)copper cluster: synthesis and structure of bis(benzoato)(mesity)tricopper(I)

Abstract

The interaggregate exchange reaction of Cu5Mes5(Mes = C6H2Me3-2,4,6) with Cu4(OBz)4(OBz = O2CPh) in benzene or toluene afforded the trinuclear cluster Cu3Mes(Obz)2(40% yield) with two bridging benzoato groups [Cu–O 1.862 Å(mean); bridged Cu ⋯ Cu 2.888(2)Å]and one bridging, three-centre, two-electron bonded mesityl group [Cu–C 1.957(6)Å; bridged Cu ⋯Cu 2.421(2)Å].
