Synthesis and characterization of seven-co-ordinate TaX(CO)3(PMe3)3 complexes (X = Cl, Br, I)

Abstract

Treatment of TaClH2(PMe3)4 with CO or oxidation of [Ta(CO)6] with TaCl5 in diethyl ether–PMe3 solutions provides TaCl(CO)3(PMe3)3, a capped trigonal prismatic complex whose structure has been determined by X-ray diffraction; bromo and iodo analogues have been isolated by oxidation of [Ta(CO)6] with Br2 or I2 in diethyl ether–PMe3 solutions.
