Simple instrumentation for Langmuir-Blodgett technology

Abstract

A simple and inexpensive trough assembly suitable for monolayer investigation and manipulation at an air-water interface is described. The instrument incorporates a Wilhelmy plate pressure transducer to record accurate pressure-area diagrams for analytical purposes. A monolayer casting device is introduced, which can be used in conjunction with the trough to deposit organised mono-or multi-layers on to substrates. Some of these modified substrates have demonstrated electrochemical properties that may be useful for the development of chemical sensors.
