Kinetic determination of technetium(VII) based on oxidative transformation of variamine blue catalysed by copper(II)

Abstract

Interactions between technetium(VII) and Variamine Blue and related compounds are described. It was found that the oxidative processes that take place between Tc(VII) and some of these reagents are catalysed by Cu(II) ion. The reaction was investigated and a kinetic method for the determination of technetium was developed covering the range 0.2–2.4 p.p.m. The procedure is subject to only a few interferences and has been applied to the direct determination of technetium in synthetic nuclear fuels.
