Unusual electrochemical behaviour of a new phenothiazine

Abstract

Cyclic voltammetry of a new derivative of the phenothiazine family quisultidine, 2-(N,N-dimethyl-sulphamoyl)-1-(3-quinuclidinyl)phenothiazine, exhibits an unusually positive oxidation wave for this class of compound. The oxidation product undergoes cleavage of the side-chain to liberate the parent 2-(N,N-dimethylsulphamoyl)phenothiazine. The electrochemical behaviour of quisultidine is probably related to the unusual pharmacological properties of this drug.
