The synthesis of peptide β-lactams as potential protease inhibitors

Abstract

β-Lactam analogues of a peptide which is a substrate/inhibitor of Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) have been designed as potential inhibitors of the enzyme. The synthesis of a series of these compounds is described and their absolute stereochemistry has been assigned by a combination of X-ray crystallography, chemical shift correlations, and nuclear Overhauser effect (n.O.e.) studies.
