Visible absorption and fluorescence spectra of the benzalacetophenone ketyl radical and its radical anion

Abstract

The benzalacetophenone ketyl radical and its radical anion were prepared in poly(vinyl alcohol) films by γ-irradiation. The absorption spectra of these radicals were measured at 77 K and compared with the results of MO calculations. The fluorescence spectrum of the benzalacetophenone ketyl radical was also measured at 77 K. The fluorescence lifetime of this radical was found to be 5.5 ± 0.5 ns.
