Excess volumes of mixtures of hydrocarbons. Calculation from excess enthalpies

Abstract

The excess volumes of hydrocarbon mixtures have been calculated by combining experimental excess enthalpies with excess energies obtained from a quasi-lattice model. Comparisons of the predicted and experimental excess volumes have been made in twenty-four test mixtures that span the temperature range 283–313 K. No new parameters have been introduced in any of the volume calculations. The agreement between the predicted and experimental results is quite satisfactory, approaching that of the experimental error in VE for n-alkane mixtures.
