Single-ion free energies of transfer from water to nitromethane based on the Ph4AsPh4B convention

Abstract

The solubilities of 30 1:1 electrolytes in nitromethane are reported and the free energies of solution for these electrolytes in this solvent have been derived. Combination of these data with those for water yield the free energy of transfer of the dissociated 1:1 electrolyte from water to nitromethane. The Ph4AsPh4B convention is used to calculate single-ion ΔGt values for 9 cations and 5 anions. Single-ion partition constants in the water + nitromethane systems are reported.
