Electric birefringences and molecular anisotropic polarisabilities of benzene and of nine methylbenzenes and t-butylbenzenes
Abstract
Molar Kerr constants are reported for benzene and for nine methylbenzenes and t-butylbenzenes in cyclohexane (λ= 589.3 nm; T= 298 K). These data, together with concomitant dielectric polarisation studies, are analysed to derive anisotropic polarisabilities of the solute molecules.
