Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopic study of adsorption and decomposition of ammonia over magnesium oxide

Abstract

The adsorption and decomposition of ammonia over magnesium oxide have been studied by means of infrared spectroscopy. The decomposition of ammonia proceeds at 573 K to form N2 and H2. The following mechanism of decomposition of ammonia over MgO has been elucidated: [graphic omitted].
