Preparation and crystal structure of tri-p-chloro-hexakis(tetrahydro-furan)dimagnesium(II) pentachloro(tetrahydrofuran)titanate(iv)

Abstract

The direct reaction between [MgCl,(thf),] and [TiCl,(thf),] in tetrahydrofuran (thf) yields a yellow crystalline salt, [(thf),Mg(p-CI),Mg(thf),] [TiCl,(thf)]. The homobimetallic cation [(thf),Mg(p-CI),- Mg(thf),] + contains a magnesium-magnesium interatomic distance of 3.1 69 A and the Mg2+ atoms are bridged by three CI atoms.
