The acceptor properties of some organophosphorus(V) bromides

Abstract

The acceptor properties of the organophosphorus(V) bromides PBr3(cat)(cat = benzene-1,2-diolate), PBr(cat)2, and PBr4Ph, and of the PBr3Ph+ cation, towards Lewis bases such as halide ions and uni- or bi-dentate pyridines have been investigated, mainly by means of 31P n.m.r. spectroscopy. Several new complexes have been isolated, and characterised by elemental analysis and (in some instances) n.m.r. or vibrational spectroscopy.
