Platinum complexes of the methyl esters of dithiocarbazic acid and 3-phenyldithiocarbazic acid

Abstract

The ligand behaviour of the methyl esters of dithiocarbazic acids NH2NHC([double bond, length half m-dash]S)SMe (L) and NHPhNHC([double bond, length half m-dash]S)SMe (PhL) in the diamagnetic complexes [PtL2Cl2], [Pt(L – H)2], [Pt(L – 2H)2], [Pt(PhL)2Cl2], [Pt(PhL – H)(PhL)CI], [Pt(PhL – H)2], and [Pt(PhL – 2H)2] have been investigated. The electronic, i.r., and X-ray photoelectron spectra of the solids have been studied; electrochemical and n.m.r. studies in solution have been performed. The ligands are co-ordinated in neutral and/or anionic deprotonated form. In the deep coloured complexes containing the doubly deprotonated ligands the metal remains essentially in the +2 oxidation state whereas the ligands have become oxidized. Moreover these complexes show electron-transfer properties. Isomerism has been observed for many complexes.
