Electron spin resonance and electrochemical studies of monocyclopentadienyl-titanium(III) and -zirconium(III) derivatives [M(η5-C5H5)R2] involving chelated phosphinomethyl (R = CH2PPh2) and phosphinoacetate (R = O2CCH2PPh2) ligands

Abstract

E.s.r. and electrochemical techniques demonstrate that the –CH2PPh2 group bonded to TiIII and ZrIII gives a three-membered ring and a five-membered ring is obtained when –O2CCH2PPh2 is bonded to ZrIII; opening of the ring is achieved by co-ordination of the phosphorus atom to another metal (Mo) yielding a heterobimetallic complex.
