1,3-Methyl migration from germanium to silicon in reactions of (Me3Si)2(Me3Ge)C(SiMe2Br) with silver salts

Abstract

the germanium halide (Me3Si)3C(GeMe2Cl) reacts with silver salts AgY to give (Me3Si)3C(GeMe2Y), whereas the related silicon halide (Me3Si)2(Me3Ge)C(SiMe2Br) gives a mixture of the rearranged and unrearranged products, (Me3Si)3C(GeMe2Y) and (Me3Si)2(Me3Ge)C(SiMe2Y).
