[Re2(µ-H)3H4{CH3C(CH2PPh2)3}], the first example of an M[triple bond, length half m-dash]MH7 co-ordination sphere

Abstract

The complex Et4N[Re2H7{MeC(CH2PPh2)3}]·MeCN, prepared by reacting (Et4N)2ReH9 and MeC(CH2PPh2)3 in acetonitrile, is shown to contain the Re2(µ-H)3 group with the Re atoms linked by a σ2π2π2 triple bond and with the ligand phosphorus atoms co-ordinated to one Re atom while four terminal hydride ligands complete a distorted pentagonal bipyramid of H atoms about the second Re atom.
