A paramagnetic cobalt carbonyl cluster anion with an encapsulated silicon atom; preparation and structure of [µ8-SiCo9(CO)21]2–

Abstract

Reaction between µ4-Si[CO2(CO)7]2 and [Co(CO)4] gave the paramagnetic title anion which was isolated as the mixed salt [NEt4]38-SiCo9(CO)21][Co(CO)4]; an X-ray structure determination showed the cluster anion to consist of a capped square anti-prismatic array of cobalt atoms encapsulating the silicon atom.
