An organoimido molybdenum(VI) complex: preparation and structure of (p-tolylN)-MoCl4(thf)

Abstract

The product of the reaction between p-tolyl azide and MoCl4(thf)2(thf = tetrahydrofuran) is shown to be the organoimido MoVI complex Mo(Ntolyl)Cl4(thf), and its molecular structure is described; in the presence of bipyridine or tertiary phosphine ligands, the title complex is readily reduced to yield organoimido MoV complexes Mo(Ntolyl)Cl3L2(L = PPh3, PPh2Et; L2= bipy, Ph2PC2H4PPh2).
