The reaction between bromine and (E)-1-trimethylsilylcyclo-octene

Abstract

when (E)-1-trimethylsilycyclo-octene (4) is treated with bromine in dichloromethane solution at –78 °C and the products are allowed to warm up to room temperature, (Z)-1-brimocyclo-oct-4-ene (5) is obtaine and can be isolated in ca. 70% yield.
